The last two weeks we talked about the importance of nutrition, but this week I wanted to introduce the second video that I was not able to share related to Toxins in our environment. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WS33IGiisJQ. When I first saw the video I was shocked by the information. I couldn’t believe that everyday products sold at our local stores could be harmful to us. How could our government allow that to happen?! While I was shocked, I was so overwhelmed with my children’s dietary issues that I didn’t have the time to really focus on understanding the REAL impacts chemicals could be having on our health.
Research is showing more that many kids who have asthma or allergies may be caused by chemicals in the environment. Since my kids didn’t have allergies or asthma this was not a topic that I really thought I needed to spend a lot of time on. An odd but interesting fact about my family. I will firmly admit, I am not the world’s greatest cleaner. In fact, my mom would probably tell you that I don’t clean enough. With a family of 6, when I looked at my priorities, cleaning was NOT one of the big rocks, (nor a favorite item on the to do list). I had to pick my battles and cleaning was one of those things I chose not to focus alot of my attention on. Plus I didn’t want to pay money on all of the different cleaning products or a cleaning lady.
Then I realized something. There are lots of kids with allergies and asthma these days, you would think the chances were great that at least one of my 4 kids would have developed some kind of environmental allergy, but that is not the case. I have other friends who are constantly cleaning their home and their kids all have some type of allergy. I thought to myself, what if there really is something to the relation of chemicals to allergies and asthma? Did I find out a dirty little secret? For those just starting your families, if you don’t use chemical cleaners, is there really less of a chance for your child to form asthma and allergies? For those whose kids already have some type of environmental allergy, if you removed toxic cleaners from your home, could you help cure your child from their asthma or allergies? There might something here worth thinking about.
